Málaga at sunset with the bullring, harbour and Mediterranean

Destination

When should you visit Málaga?

Málaga is more than a beach escape. It is a compact Mediterranean city built around great food, art, beaches, rooftop bars and long evenings, with a climate that makes outdoor life possible for much of the year. Summer brings the classic Costa del Sol combination of heat, beach days and nightlife, while spring and early autumn offer a more balanced way to experience the city.

My recommendation

May

May hits the sweet spot for Málaga: warm days, very little rain and plenty of sunshine without the intense heat of midsummer. It is ideal for combining the historic centre, beach time, rooftops and outdoor dining.

The Costa del Sol city break

Málaga works unusually well when you want a little bit of everything: Andalusian food, stylish rooftops, beach afternoons, historic streets, art and a growing high-end dining scene. Spend the day between the old town and the sea, then move to a rooftop for sunset and dinner. One drink at Hotel Málaga Palacio should not be missed — its rooftop offers an iconic view over Málaga and the harbour.
