January
January is the strongest overall month because it combines Bangkok's driest and most comfortable weather with relatively manageable conditions for sightseeing. It is high season, so crowds and prices are higher than in the wet season, but the overall balance is strongest.

What to know before you book
- Songkran
- Bangkok's biggest annual celebration. Songkran brings huge crowds, water fights and a completely different atmosphere to the city. Fantastic if you specifically want the festival; less attractive if you want a calm sightseeing trip.
- Chinese New Year
- Bangkok's Chinatown becomes particularly lively around Chinese New Year, with celebrations and increased visitor activity. Exact dates change each year.
- Loy Krathong
- One of Thailand's most atmospheric festivals, with floating krathongs and celebrations around Bangkok. The exact date changes each year.
- Christmas and New Year
- Demand rises around the holiday period, with higher hotel rates and more visitors. Early December offers the dry-season atmosphere without the full holiday peak.
