The real White Lotus hotels

Where every season was filmed — and when to go without the crowds the show brought with it.

Every season of The White Lotus was filmed at a real hotel — and every one of them was quiet before the cameras arrived. Here's where each season was shot, and how to experience it the way it looked before the world started watching.

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Hawaii

Season 1

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, Hawaii

The white-sand original. Set between Polo Beach and Keawakapu Beach, this horseshoe-shaped resort gives most rooms a view of the Pacific or Haleakalā's volcanic peak. The adults-only Serenity Pool is the one worth knowing about — an infinity pool with an underwater music system, quieter than the main pool and the closest thing to the show's hush. Dinner belongs at Ferraro's, the only oceanfront open-air restaurant in Wailea, for coastal Italian under the stars.

When to visit

April–May or September–early December — between the winter holiday rush and summer family season, with warmer water and better rates.

Season 2

San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel, Sicily

A 14th-century convent turned five-star hotel, perched on a rocky promontory above the Ionian Sea. Hidden beneath the clifftop infinity pool is a smaller subterranean spa pool — the quieter of the two. Principe Cerami, the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, sits on a terrace overlooking Taormina Bay, the same bay the show's cast watched sink into scandal.

When to visit

Late April–June or September–October. July–August bring the heat (and the crowds) the satire itself was written about.

Season 3

Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, Thailand

Perched high on a hillside with a Zen-like calm, this was the primary location — private villas, most with their own pool, ocean-facing. CoCoRum, the resort's poolside bar, is home to Asia's only rum vault — worth a stop after the beach.

When to visit

November–March, dry season. Skip mid-April — Songkran's water festival closes streets and fills the islands.

When to visit

Same window as Koh Samui — November through March.

On Phuket's northern tip, backed by national park — a long stretch of beach that stays quieter than the island's southern nightlife strip. All 83 pool villas come with their own private plunge pool. Minor Hotels leaned into the White Lotus connection with a dedicated “Lotus Awakening” retreat package here.

When to visit

November–April, before the southwest monsoon season begins.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

Written, not filmed

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

Not a filming location exactly — but written into the show's DNA. Series creator Mike White reportedly wrote much of the season at The Author's Lounge, and The Bamboo Bar — the hotel's 1950s-style jazz venue — still serves a White Lotus-inspired cocktail.

When to visit

November–February — Bangkok's coolest, driest months.
